Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to grab the RSS feed or subscribe via email to receive updates on this topic and many others!

Pearl Jam is my favorite band, of all time. When I was in Hollywood, CA, Pearl Jam was my soundtrack. Yellow Ledbetter is my all-time favorite song – period. I want this song played at my funeral – which hopefully won’t be anytime soon! I don’t even care which version is played, as long as a version is played. I say “version” because Eddie Vedder writes new verses on the fly for Yellow Ledbetter when they play it live, a lot. I’m not sure if they have ever played the song the same way twice. Anyone?

At any rate, the above video is a live version with new verses sung by Eddie, of course. The video below is the original, album version of the song. This song is perfect.

Here are the original lyrics: Unsealed / On a porch a letter sat / Then you said I wanna leave it again / Once I saw her on a beach of weathered sand / And on the sand I wanna leave it again … yeah / On a weekend I wanna wish it all away yeah … / And they called and I said that I want what I said / And then I call out again / And the reason oughta leave her calm I know / I said I dont know whether / I’m the boxer or the bag

Can you see them / Out on the porch / But they dont wave / I see them round the front way yeah / And I know I dont want to stay …

Make me cry

Ooooh I see / I dont know why there’s something else / I wanna drum it all away / Oh I said I don’t, I dont know whether Im a boxer or the bag

Can you see them / Out on the porch / But they dont wave / I see them round the front way yeah / And I know I dont want to stay

I dont wanna stay (2x)

  1. I can honestly say I have never known which song was “yellow ledbetter” until seeing it here (of course I’ve heard it a few hundred times now that i realize what song it is.

And let me just say… you’re unofficially welcome.
