Hilarious, and so true: What if Starbucks Marketed Like a Church? A Parable.
Over recent years, there has been no shortage of sharp, marketing-minded Christians who pointed at Starbucks and said, “The church should be more like that! If we could create a “Starbucks Experience” in church then surely it would grow as a result of our reaching that fast growing Starbucks demographic!” This, I believe, is the first time anyone has ever flipped that sort of thinking and asked, “What would Starbucks be like if it were tagged with the “Church Experience.” Outrageous, to say the least!
I will simply ignore the temptation to actually offer critical thoughts on the whole “let’s nick Starbucks” approach to church. I have nothing good to say about the effort, so better to say nothing at all.

Hi shawn, i was enjoying to read a couple of your posts and so subcribed to a feed…now I continue to read and find your site promoting scientology through an advertisement? (its on this page, opposite “Starbucks marketed as a church”) ???? Doesnt seem in keeping with what you were writing , so thought I’d just mention it.Besides that , I have decided to continue reading your posts to try and understand the “emerging” thing.I have been a missionary for a long time and have been praying for years for a new expression of Church, and some of things I see happening in emergent seems to be an opportunity for change…Craig.
Yes. The wacky Scientology ad needs to be nixed. I’m working on it. I assure you, I am no supporter of Scientology. Thanks!
