Wow, the devotional book you are writting sounds very interesting. I would encourage you to continue writting it. When you get your book done, I would like to read it. There is a lot of interest out there. I put together a study guide on THE SHACK and posted it on the web it was available. I have had just over 300 requests. About half of the requests went to someone who wanted to use it for a study group. I think a devotional book would be a great follow-up for those who have read or studied THE SHACK.
Please contact me when you book is completed.

My husband started reading The Shack before I did, but had to put it down because he was bothered by what he saw as Mack's cynicism. Sharing this with me, he came to conclusion that, since we are often offended by what we see of ourselves in others and are fearful of the exposure acknowledging that will bring, it was he who was the cynic! This has transformed him! He has become much more gentle, less judgmental, and far more patient since that day. And once he finished the book, he has only deepened in his appreciation of God's goodness. Steve acknowledged to me that he has been struggling with my having an incurable cancer, and reading the book took that away, also.

For me, I put away the convoluted view of God's sovereignty a while back. I recognize that He is most certainly sovereign, but many confuse that with domination, which is satan's approach, not the Father's. From the beginning, God has given human beings choice, and the consequences have been made clear. But He has never rescinded our free will, no matter how angry the devil is over that! Thus, The Shack did not change my life, but it certainly confirmed my faith in the Lord God's love and wisdom to use the events in this fallen world to guide me into all Truth.

This is what I put on my Caring Bridge blog:

MONDAY, JANUARY 12, 2009 11:52 AM, CST
Well, my dear ones, I finished The Shack this morning, and all I can say is, YES! Every single thing that Mack learned at the shack has been a lesson the Lord has taught me at one time or another through the years - without exception. Of course, being a real person and not a character in a novel, I have to keep learning them ... But nonetheless, there was not a single thing that was said or done in the book that I could not relate to and say, "Exactly!" At times, I wondered if William Young had been in my house, in my head, in my heart for the last 36 years, at least, and had put together a book, in perfect order, that relayed my experiences with the Way, the Truth, and the Life - even down to the same wording. At times I wondered if he had gotten hold of the drafts of the book I'm writing on the prayer of faith, as many of the chapters are concepts Mack is leaning at the shack. From the explanation of God's character and personalities, to the visions of what Heaven really is - complete with sights and sounds that I have seen and heard, it is mind-boggling and yet extremely JOYFUL, to see that I am not alone in my understanding of Who He is and what He longs to do for us! Not that I ever thought I was, but I do have to say, I have often felt that I am a voice crying in the wilderness - "GOD DID NOT PLAN EVIL!!!!!" and, "God does not want us to die!" So, if my opinion means anything, please read this book!
The question then is, should I even continue to write mine? I asked the Lord that, as I could see that what I'm writing is basically the same process of thought, but the Lord reminded me that, while William Young has written a novel, I am writing a devotional book based on theological truth that is, hopefully, painstakingly proved by and in Scripture. In other words, my book is intended to prove that what Young is setting forth is, in fact, Biblically true. And since I've been blogging for some time with people who have read the book, many of whom who are deeply offended by The Shack, I can see that there is still room for confirmation and encouragement.
I had read Wendy Alec's The Fall of Lucifer, just before picking up The Shack, so now, as I go back to finish, The Messiah, I will have a wonderfully fresh picture in my mind of Jesus and His interaction with the Father and the Holy Spirit. I'm excited about that.
I've lost count of how many times I've read the Bible through, but I can say that each time I have, the Lord has shown me a new angle from which to view Him. And yet, as I was sharing with Steve this morning, if we will take the God we knew the first day we met Him, at salvation, we will have the purest and most-like-Him view of all. As babes in Christ, we are often given the best concept of Him, and it takes religion and brain-washings and control spirits through "spiritual advisors" many years to refashion Him into something cold and hard and full of wrath and vengeance. Yes, it took a full year after I was saved to take away the JOY I had in Him, and twelve years for me to get it back! But, He is faithful and He did draw me once again to Who He really is. I can't deny that I still cry at times, being fully aware that I am, in my carnality, still what I was before I knew Him, but I rejoice more often than not that I have been set free from rules and regulations and responsibilities and expectations and an independence that only hurt my relationship with Him and with others, when I'm walking in His light by the power of His Spirit. And all it takes to do that is ASK. Amazing Lord!
Nothing, however, comes as easily as it does in a novel, and not nearly as quickly! But then again, I've been on a Walk to Emmaus, and it comes pretty close! :)
So as I sit here listening to my Wow Worship oldies (My Redeemer, I Can Only Imagine ...), I rejoice that we all, with unveiled faces, can behold Him in all His glory, if only we will ask.
Thank You, Lord!

I was set not to like the book, The Shack but after reading it, I thought it was really good and thought provoking. All the time I reaad it, I kept thinking it needs a study to go along with it. I finally decided God was urging me to write a study which I did. If anyone would like it, email me at prayerdigm.bookstudy@yahoo.com. I would be glad to send you the study. You are welcome to use it and copy it for others.

I found the book very enjoying and it drew me to a deeper relationship with G-d. The revelation knowledge that I experienced was spirit quickening, as well as, enlightening. If you are grounded and rooted in the word, then you should have no problem with this book, because it is just fiction. If you know the truth, then the truth shall keep you free of all deception. Also, if you truly know G-d, this book should not distort your view of Him. The author never said that this was a replacement to the Bible. It is a Fiction novel, not non-fiction. Additionally, the author never stated that this book was the core of Christianity or any other religion. I found compassion, brokeness, forgiveness, love, grace, and mercy to abound in this novel. I believe that we all need something or someone to challenge us, during our spiritual walk, and draw us closer to Him. The Shack will prompt you to experience an encounter with the “true” living G-d and cry out to Papa. Shalom!

If you are looking for theology in a fiction novel, this book is not for you. READ YOUR BIBLE!

a) I don't have a problem with an outlook that makes the Catholic Church a negative as I have yet to find a scripture establishing it as 'the' Church.

b) the scriptures cited above by simple man are truth from the Word. I just don't see the connection to the 'Shack' that I read. Or, how they don't apply to most preachers I've listened to from many a pulpit.

@Bill: Get the cookies, brother!

I just bought my second copy of The Shack. I'm thinking about buying a box full for the people at our church. :)

Simple Mann, by his own admission, has never read The Shack in its entirety, yet he scours the internet for positive reviews so he can attack the book, the author, and those whose lives have been positively impacted by Paul Young.

Shawn, thanks for the insights, brother! I had the same reaction, but I didn't get the cookies. :)

Biblical support for the theology in The Shack may be found in Psalm 8, Proverbs 8, The Gospel of John, and the First Letter of John to mention a few. A book of theology that affirms many of the ideas presented in The Shack is RATIONAL CHRISTIANITY by Dr. George Elgin published in 2006 byWord Association Publishers. :)

After i heard my wife talking about a book that was not bought by kids college library i asked if she knows something about this book A CABANA (The Shack)in portuguese and she tells me a little breafing related and after that i was so interested to read.
Thanks to Mack becouse the book is and will be the Gods note that him received after a tragic moment in his life to help everybody.
I could to feel God more close and interested in my life again.
Sometimes we need to give a chance to God in ours lives and God say that his opportunity is our desesperate moments.
Better goes to God everytime when happy or sad i think.
Thanks to God and you.
God blass you in this way sharing the beautiful that comes from inside of your heart.
I beg your pardon about my english.
