John Calvin is 500 Years Old

It’s John Calvin’s 500th birthday. Happy birthday! FYI: Calvin was a 16th Century reformer and French theologian who was instrumental in shaping what’s called the Reformed Tradition and/or Reformation Theology. His name is also applied to the different branches of theology that have sprouted out of the reformation (see Puritanism, for example). Read more…

The NeoReformed by Scot McKnight

Last week, Scot McKnight published a few great posts about the NeoReformed expression. I would suggest that everyone go and read these posts. If you haven’t heard of the NeoReformed yet, you will soon. It’s growing in popularity, for a few good and not-so-good reasons (more not-so-good than good). And be sure not to confuse or equate what McKnight deems NeoReformed with Calvinism. I have had a tendency to do so, but I admit that is not a correct or edifying approach to the larger situation. Some of my best and my favorite teachers have been Calvinists. There is a difference – a marked difference – between the two. I need to personally acknowledge that right now and make my own position very clear. Read more…
