I just watched two episodes of the Emmy Award and Peabody Award-winning BBC nature documentary titled Planet Earth: As You’ve Never Seen it Before. Incredible! Awe inspiring! Humbling! Those are just a few of the adjectives that come relatively close to capturing the responses that this documentary inspires. Planet Earth offers a view of creation like no other documentary has before it. The information blurb on the back of the DVD set warns viewers to prepare to be “overwhelmed by the beauty and majesty of Planet Earth.” Whoever wrote that blurb was not exaggerating. This documentary is epic!
Humanity inhabits an incredibly stunning and beautiful and mysterious planet. Unfortunately, we are so preoccupied with ourselves and our self-inflictions that we fail to recognize the beauty of it all. Life is incredible! Planet Earth reminds us of the awe-inspiring complexity and the beautiful simplicity of the mysterious realm in which we live and breathe. This five-disc documentary reminds of us this awesome truth by intimately re-introducing us to our planet and her amazingly diverse habitats. Planet Earth journeys deep into these habitats in eleven breath taking episodes captured with cutting-edge technology. The episodes are as follows: “From Pole to Pole,” “Mountains,” “Fresh Water,” “Caves,” “Deserts,” “Ice Worlds,” “Great Plains,” “Jungles,” “Shallow Seas,” “Seasonal Forests” and “Ocean Deep.”
Without doubt, God is revealed in nature. I wonder why we don’t really – I mean really – celebrate this truth in our churches more? I’m not talking about adding a three minute shout-out to nature in a thin evangelistic sermon! I’m talking about painting the same sort of awe-inspiring picture that this documentary paints for no other reason than to celebrate the beauty and mystery of God and God’s great creation?
I feel a Sunday night movie series coming on for Inner Metro Green. Stay tuned!
Hat/Tip: Ben Martin, my brother and co-worker in the city, for lending me this documentary! Thanks, Ben! You were right! Planet Earth is incredible!

Yes! I love all these documentaries. I own a couple of copies myself. It definitely is humbling and awesome to think about this ridiculous creation that our Supreme Power has given us. Glad you liked it man.
I’ll be interested to see what we end up showing as far as movies go at IMG. Let me know if you need help on the legal side of things and I can see what I can do for yah.
