Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to grab the RSS feed or subscribe via email to receive updates on this topic and many others!

Borderline anal-retentives everywhere may now rejoice! Your relentless attention to detail has just received a holiday! Well, that may be overstating the point a bit, so let’s turn down the exuberance and say it this way: if missing album art in iTunes has been frustrating your attention to detail then what you are about to read will come as wonderful, exciting news! You can manually add album art in iTunes! Be frustrated no more, anal-retentive!

Many of us have been frustrated by the handful of albums imported into iTunes that have no album cover art. It doesn’t matter if you are sliding smoothly through your album collection in “Cover Flow” mode or scrolling along in “Grid View,” missing album artwork totally wrecks the aesthetic that should be accompanying an iTunes collection. The problem becomes even worse when Apple TV is added to the equation. Missing album artwork looks even worse in Apple TV.

So, how do you fix the problem? It’s actually quite simple.

1. The following image puts the aesthetic peccant on full display. The missing album artwork is a blight upon the face of an otherwise tranquil iTunes album collection. It must be cured, but how? It’s an “Unknown Album” made up of varied compilation of odd MP3s. So how?

2. Click on the rogue album and shift/select all of the songs associated with the album. Everything will be highlighted blue. This is a good thing. We are on our way to complete collection uniformity.

3. Right click on any song title and when the dialog box open up left click on “Get Info” and a box titled “Multiple Item Information” should appear. You may first be greeted by a prompt asking you if you really want to modify a bunch of songs at once. If you receive this prompt, say “yes,” of course, and then you should see the “Multiple Item Information” box.

4. Locate the album art you want to associate to the album (you can find the album art online and simply save it to your disk and apply it to the album at your convenience). Simply drag and drop in into the designated “Artwork” section of the “Multiple Item Information” box. Then click the “OK” button. iTunes will process the change and associate the artwork to every song on the album.

5. When you check your “Grid View” again you will be thrilled to find no more broken aesthetic! Your albums are all represented by beautiful, appeasing, and mood setting cover art! That little attention to detail thing you have going on – which you constantly justify as a valuable part of a healthy and productive life – will be satisfied, at least for a brief and fleeting moment.

Celebrate! You know how to manually add artwork to your iTunes albums. Go on! Finish the rest. Then click play and simply enjoy your music collection. There will be plenty of time for you to check the clothes closet to make sure all the clothes hangers are pointing in the same direction.

It might help to uncheck the read-only option of the folder with your music in it… But this might not work due to vista sometimes automatically changes it back to read only… Right click on folder and then properties.
