Inquiry: Education and Religious Expression
Does education have anything to do with the sort of religious expression we espouse? Said differently, does the amount and quality of information one is exposed to alter one’s perceived revelation? I know how I’d answer those questions? How about you? And, perhaps more importantly, can we look beyond our asking of those immediate questions and actually see that the act of asking them itself is an event laden with meaning that could in fact help us answer the question? What does the event of asking those questions and searching for those answers mean, in light of the original question (See the first sentence for a reminder of the original question).

An Unexamined Faith
Well, my grand hiatus lasted nearly 24 hours. How about that, people! Ha ha! All kidding aside, I am going to update this blog far less frequently than I have in the past so I can tend to my writing projects. I did, however, plan on keeping up with my Facebook and Twitter accounts in the meanwhile. The funny thing is I had the following Facebook Status Update all ready to go but it was too long to be published as a Facebook Status update. The little blurb was too good – in my humble opinion – to not be given life somewhere so it’s being published here in spite of my hiatus. Read more…

Hiatus

Hiatus: Recess (break), a break or interruption in the continuity of a work, some sex series, action, etc.
The above definition of “Hiatus” was lifted from Wikipedia and pasted here for your convenience. I’m not quite sure how the part regarding “some sex series” applies to the word, and it’s probably better that I don’t know what in the hell that means. The important part of the definition is the bit about “taking a break or accepting interruption in the continuity of a work.” The work from which I will be taking a break is this blog. No, I am not closing this blog. I will be back writing and posting here in time. How much time? I’m not sure right now. I suppose however long it take some to finish the four or five writing projects I’m working on. I am excited about these projects and I am compelled to dedicate 100% of my time to them. So, everything else, including the regular updating of this blog, will have to take a back seat for as long as it takes. Happily, I don’t think that time will be too long. I should be back in a month or two, but that depends totally upon my muse’s willingness to cooperate.
So, don’t unsubscribe from the feed; in fact, if you aren’t subscribed already, you probably should do so now to stay updated on the status of this blog. I’m not going anywhere. The blog will remain. I’m just refocusing my attention and energy to a few very important writing projects.
Thanks, all. :)

How to Care for Your New Tattoo

I think a few words regarding tattoos should be said, before we get to specific instructions concerning the care for your new tattoo.
Tattoos are full of personal meaning. More often than not, tattoos are a very sophisticated form of body art. Tattoos are very personal expressions of the deepest sort. They are often rich in personal symbolism and artistically represent a love, a loved one, or a major event in the life of its wearer. People who get tattoos take their decorations very seriously. They usually don’t permanently sketch images onto their bodies without giving the act – and the image – a lot of thought. Read more…

Spiritual Not Religious

I’m growing less religious by the day. In fact, I think it would be safe to say that I want no part of any one particular religion. My growing hesitation concerning all things religious is not a product of some sort of bitter disdain for any one religion in particular, but rather my growing appreciation for our planet’s colorful compilation of religions and spiritual expressions. In fact, I think it would be proper to say that I am a spiritual person, but not religious. Yes, that might sound like an easy, modern, or perhaps even new age answer, but I assure you it is is not. It took me years to arrive at this conclusion and I can honestly say my arrival was anything but easy, modern, or new age. In fact, it has cost me plenty. It will cost you too, if you decide to chase it. It is worth the cost. Read more…

Five Life Lessons

Five Life Lessons
Life lessons are learned by actually living life. Sure we can pick up books along the way that will help us along our way but the the only way to really learn anything is by actually doing it. Advice from our friends, loved ones, and leaders is really helpful too, but again, the only way we will really learn all the lessons this life has to teach us is by actually living life. Life lessons are learned by personal experience. Sometimes these lessons are learned the easy way, sometimes they are learned the hard way. Regardless of what you’ve been told or sold, you will have to jump headlong into life and living to really learn anything. Read more…

Did Perry Noble’s NewSpring Attempt to Silence Dr. James Duncan with Violence and Intimidation?
Reports from this story are making their way around the Internet this week. Honestly, I’d like very much to say that I’m not shocked, but I really am. I am totally shocked by the unchecked perpetuation of what seems to be a systemic culture of violence, intimidation, vulgarity, and hate that exists in the senior leadership and staff of Perry Noble’s NewSpring Church. This is a truly disturbing story. The excerpt below is only one small part of a very large and long series of events for which someone should be held accountable. Read more…
