“In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.” – Luke 6:12; “And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone…” – Matthew 14:23; “And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” – Mark 1:35; “And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray.” – 6:46; “But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.”- Luke 5:16

How’s your prayer life? Do you have a prayer life? If you do not, then you are missing out on one of the most beneficial spiritual disciplines available to us.

A maturing worshiper of God will continuously search for quiet spaces throughout his or her day to commune deeply and communicate openly with God. Jesus of Nazareth, on many, many occasions, pushed aside his hectic and demanding and controversial kingdom preaching duties to make other sacred spaces wherein he could be deeply alone and in deep relationship with God. Jesus benefited from these deep and special times. Consider the Garden of Gethsemane prayer! Our teacher, during his deepest time of need, temptation, and internal struggle, turned to prayer. it was in prayer, that he heard the Father’s will and gained the spiritual and physical strength to carry on. Jesus prayed.

How much more should we be praying? Jesus is our example, teacher and guide. His kingdom is build on prayer; kingdom people should be continuously praying. Are you?

Today’s Prayer: God. Hear me today. Show me how I can commune and communicate with you deeply throughout my day. Broaden and stretch my understanding of what it actually means to pray with you; compassionately teach me how to pray. Gently guide me into all of your awesome creativity and open my eyes so I don’t miss the big and small things that you are using to speak to me right now, today.
