It’s Good/Mourning Friday. It’s a day for mourning and commemoration. This day is a day for deep reflection. Today, we not only reflect upon the uncompromising truth of Jesus of Nazareth, and how he did not flinch in spite of the insurmountable odds he faced, but also the sad and terrible rejection of God’s Kingdom and it’s innocent proclaimer.
Today, at Inner Metro Green our refection and commemoration will be centered upon the Seven Last Words of Jesus, spoken on this day some 2000 years ago. We will be in prayer from 12 Noon – 6:00PM. Please join us in this prayer, from wherever you may be. The seven last words (or phrases) spoken by Jesus from the terrible Roman cross follows. Spend some time today thinking and praying each word. Peace to you.
1. The First Word: Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing (Luke 23:34).
2. The Second Word: I assure you, today you will be with me in Paradise (Luke 23:43).
3. The Third Word: Dear woman, here is your son (John 19:26).
4. The Fourth Word: My God, my God, why have you abandoned me (Mark 15:34)?
5. The Fifth Word: I am thirsty (John 19:28).
6. The Sixth Word: It is finished (John 19:30).
7. The Seventh Word: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit (Luke 24:46).
